What To Know About Choosing Between Different Pool Cleaners

An automatic cleaner is a great way to keep your pool's looking its best. While it doesn't mean you don't have to perform any maintenance, it makes the job much easier and quicker. There are three basic types of pool cleaners: suction, pressure and robotic. Here's an overview of each system type to help you choose the best for you.

The most basic type of cleaner is a suction model. The suction-type cleaner moves around the bottom and sides and vacuums up dirt and debris when the pump system is running. Everything that is sucked up goes into the existing filtering system.

Suction models are easy to install. They simply hook into the existing skimmer system or plug into a suction port. The equipment is very simple so there is virtually no equipment maintenance. It is also a very economical system as there are no special installation equipment to add to the pool's system. Just hook it up and throw it in the water. That's all there is to it.

Pressure cleaners is another system type. They use either the existing pump or separate pump system to generate cleaning pressure. They feature their own filtering bag and roll around on scuff resistant wheels and cover a lot of ground. The separate booster pump does not interfere with the existing system and ensures the cleaner maintains consistent pressure.

The main benefit of a pressure system is that it has its own filter system, which puts less strain on the existing system. It can also handle greater amounts of dirt and debris so is a good choice in particularly windy areas or where there are a lot of trees surrounding the area. Like the suction model, once it's in the water you just forget it and let it do it's work. You do have to clean out the filter bag on occasion.

Robotic cleaners are the most involved. As the name suggests, this cleaning system is fully self-sufficient. The equipment includes a motor for vacuuming up dirt and debris and a separate motor for movement. They are plugged into an electrical outlet and placed into the water to do its job, then removed after they clean. Robotics do not utilize the existing pump and filter system.

One of the main benefits of robotic models is that it is independent of the pump and filter system, so there is less wear and tear. It is also removed when not in use, so swimmers don't have to contend with cleaner hoses and equipment in the bottom. The built-in filter system not only picks up debris, but does a good job of filtering smaller particles out of the water.

So it you want to cut down on the amount of work it takes to service and maintain your pool's water, consider one of the different automatic pool cleaners available. While you still have to do some maintenance, the cleaner will do the bulk of the work. So whether you choose a suction, pressure or robotic system, you'll have more time to enjoy swimming and relaxing.
